FOCUSES ON STRENGTHENING STROKES, ENDURANCE AND IMPROVING RACE TECHNIQUES
We offer two levels for the swim team, one being an introduction to the swim team aiming at stroke techniques and two being The Competition Swim Team, competing at meets is not required but encouraged. Each session for both levels is done monthly. Ages 4 through 18 welcome.
Barracuda Stroke Technique
This Group encompasses swimmers who have a basic knowledge of swimming independently. Emphasis is based on basic stroke technique. Swimmers learn to dive and perform proper turns as well as all four strokes, freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, and butterfly. Swimmers are offered three, 45-minute practices per week. These swimmers are eligible to progress to the competition team after showing basic knowledge of all four strokes.
Equipment: Swim cap, goggles
Goals: Teaching stroke technique and developing racing skills to join the competition team.
Barracuda Competition Team:
This group of swimmers continues to emphasize stroke technique as well as skilled and experienced swimmers. Introduction of training fundamentals as for improving meet performance, stroke technique and race rehearsals prepare this group for local, state, and regional competition with other YMCA league teams. Groups emphasis is on setting an achievement of each athlete’s goals within the competition swim team setting. Practicing four 60-minute practices per week, of which three practices are encouraged – but not required.
Equipment: Swim Cap, Googles, Fins,
Goals: Developing advanced stroke techniques and racing skills. Pace clock training, developing character and leadership roles within the team, a positive attitude and drive to be better oneself, in and outside of the pool. Learning independent work ethic and building a strong competition swimmer.
Tryouts for competition team: Swimmers must try out for the team before registering. Future Barracudas must be able to confidently swim 25 yards of freestyle and 25 yards backstroke in 4ft – 9ft dept pool. Practice Schedule: Monthly
Stroke Technique: Monday, Tuesday, and Thursdays 4:30pm – 5:15pm
Competition Team: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday 5:30pm – 6:30pm
Session Cost: Monthly
Stroke Technique: $45 for members $65 for non-members
Competition Team: $60 – must be a member
